Don't worry, we will have dues. The specifics will not be spelled out in the Articles of Association, however. The draft you see here is like a Constitution; the regulations will be set out separately. We will be submitting for approval a resolution that would set up a membership fee structure for 2007. We need to discuss what, if any, recognition (fee discount?) can / should be offered to the Founding Members who ponied up $500 in 2006. Ten percent off annual dues for the next ten years? For life? What should be the annual membership fee for physicians, scientists, nurses, allied helath professionals, etc. So bring any ideas to the meeting next Thursday!
Maybe we have not worded this section as clearly as we thought. These Articles of Association were designed to give authority to the general membership to establish and modify the fee categories and amounts. In other words, changes would be by General Meeting resolutions (50%+1), not by constitutional amendments (67%). You do not see any further specifics HERE because (a) we felt the specifics did not belong here and (b) Guy & I have no idea what the will of the Group will be on recurring annual dues; this will nee dto be discussed & debated in Toronto, and a duly moved and seconded resolution will require majority approval to set it up.
So, comments please. Do you agree with how Guy & I set it up so far, or would you like more specifics in the Articles of Association, with the amending formula requiring two-thirds? Have we worded it properly, or can anyone suggest better language?

One other thought about the dues which depends on how high they are but people may want to consider multi-year memberships to simplify the life of the treasurer and themselves.

For budgeting, receipting and bookkeeping purposes, I am not immediately convinced that this simplifies things for the treasurer, but again, the will of the Group, etc., etc.

I like the idea of an incentive for the founding members - IE 10% discount for some time period. I'm not sure if it needs to be in the constitution though.

I agree that we don't need to set out the actual fees in this document but need decide on the amount at the annual meeting or by mail or web voting
